CARROLLTON (CBSDFW.COM) – Last week a Carrollton chiropractor was accused of and arrested on allegations he sexually assaulted a female patient.
Carrollton police arrested Scott Tan Viet Lai on June 14. Lai is a chiropractor at SSC Chiropractic in the 1200 block of North Josey Lane.
The alleged attack happen on June 11th, that’s when, an emergency room nurse at Baylor Medical Center of Carrollton contacted police.
According to an arrest warrant affidavit officers arrived and found a woman who said Lai had assaulted her. The alleged victim explained that she had hurt her back and neck in a car crash. She said she was hoping to find a Vietnamese healthcare worker and was referred to Lai.
The woman said she had been to Lai’s office on two other occasions, but during this appointment when the two entered the business Lai closed and locked the main door behind them.
Once inside the woman said Lai began treatment and at one point asked her take off her clothes but she refused. At some point Lai allegedly told the woman he need to rub her lower back and that she need to pull her shorts down. The woman said when she rolled over onto her stomach Lai grabbed her shorts and pulled them off saying he needed to “get to the tail bone area.”
The woman told police Lai then put his hands on the lower part of her body and began touching her inappropriately. He allegedly told the woman her tail bone which was at a wrong angle and he need to continue to “apply pressure.” While continuing to touch her the woman said the chiropractor then whispered in her ear, “Do you want me to help you relax?”
The patient said she jumped up and told Lai she didn’t think was he was doing was appropriate. According to the affidavit, Lai told the woman said she should have known what the procedure would entail.
The woman told police she afraid Lai would hurt or even kill her, so she tried not to appear upset or angry. The woman claims Lai told her she needed to sign some papers before she could leave and when she did he allowed her to leave out the front door without incident.
Lai now faces 2nd degree Sexual Assault charges. He is free on $100,000 bond.
